We have finally made it!!!! You are now an official expert on ancient civilizations, right? This has been a fun and interesting unit and the best part, you have taken on the special task of uncovering many artifacts from the ancient world and are now considered archaeologists. Congratulations. Instead of taking a boring old test to wrap this unit up like a mummy, we are going to have even more fun comparing and contrasting Egypt and Mesopotamia. For the rest of the week in class you are going to be completing several different activities based on the topics that we have learned about ancient civilizations.
Task #1 Popping Bubbles
For this task you are going to be using the characteristics that make a civilization. You have used Bubbl.us before in ELA and made your compass roses early in the year. You are going to create a "bubble" for each characteristic. You will then branch off of each one like an irrigation canal off of the Nile, explaining how each civilization exemplifies each characteristic. Here is an example for you:
Civilization Bubbles You will have 25 total bubbles, One "title" bubble, 8 characteristic bubbles and 16 example or explanatory bubbles. When you are complete, take a screenshot and put on the Google Doc that is in your Google Classroom.
***As an alternative to this task, for those of you who enjoy art, you may draw this. I will give you paper.***
Task #2 Where in the world did King Tut get his eyebrows?
This task is pretty simple and straightforward. Read the articles and answer the questions. Click on the picture to view the article.
Please copy and paste the questions from the above link to your Google Doc that you will be submitting to me as your project. When you answer the questions please highlight your text so I can easily read it.
Task #3 Let's Go Camping!
For task #3, you are going to be making an electronic poster using Smore. Sorry it is not the s'mores you are drooling over right now with the melted marshmallow and gooey chocolate on a delicious graham cracker but don't fret, we will do that at camp. For this task we will be making a visual comparison chart between two of the first civilizations on Earth. Please refer to the list/diagram we made in class. On your Smore, you need at least 6 comparisons including 1 video. Check out my Smore below.
To submit your Smore, please insert the link in your Google Doc. It will be too large to take a screenshot. When you are finished building your Smore, on the right hand side click "Done Editing". You will then see the link in that box.
**As an alternative to this task, you may draw a comparison of the two civilizations. I will provide paper and show you an example**
Task #4 Field Trip
It's time to go surfing!!! Sorry, not the kind that they do in SoCal or Hawaii. You are going to use Google Maps to do some surfing through Egypt and Mesopotamia. You are looking for evidence that proves that these places were actual civilizations. Please find proof of at least 5 out of the 8 characteristics that make a civilization. Please screenshot these 5 examples along with a brief explanation and include them in your Google Doc to be submitted to me.
You are going to be presenting your slideshow using Knovio. You get to choose which one you would like to do; Egypt or Mesopotamia. You will upload your slideshow to Knovio and then explain each side as you would in a presentation. Do NOT just read the slides, elaborate on what you have chosen to put on your slideshows. Click on the Legend below to learn how to begin.
Task #6 Your Temple
Build your own temple. It can resemble a pyramid or a ziggurat or be totally different. If you were the pharaoh or emperor of an ancient civilization what would your temple look like? You may use Minecraft (at home) or Google Drawings to complete this task. Please take a screenshot tour and add them to the bottom of your Google Doc. You may also draw what your temple would look like.
